Événement – Abolition Institute : les lauréats du Prix Aichana Abeid Boilil 2020 (Chicago – USA)

✅English : Aichana Abeid Boilil Award 2020

This year’s Aichana Award recipients are Rory Hoskins, Forest Park Mayor, Antonio Sola, Human Rights Leader and Founder of Commonsense Foundation and Black Remembrance Project. They are recognized for their outstanding work on slavery and its legacy, and global human rights. The event was filled with symbolism as it took place at the Historic Stone Temple Church on February 12th, the Month of Black History. It is important to mention that the Stone Temple Church was the very first church to courageously hosted Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Chicago despite of the challenges of that time.

During the event I was moved by the story of Mr. Eugene Horton, released from Illinois State prison after serving 48 years for a crime he did not commit. Interestingly, he has been inspired by his own experience to advocate for justice.

Congratulations to the awardees, heartfelt thanks to Bishop Derrick Fitpatrick and Reshorna Fitzpatrick for generously hosting the event. And kudos to the board of Abolition Institute.

Les lauréats du Prix Aichana de cette année sont Rory Hoskins, Maire de Forest Park, Antonio Sola, Leader des Droits de l’Homme et Fondateur de Fondation Bon Sens et Black Remembrance Project. Ils sont reconnus pour leur travail exceptionnel sur l’esclavage et son héritage, ainsi que sur les droits de l’homme dans le monde. L’événement était rempli de symbolisme car il a eu lieu à l’église historique, « Stone Temple Church » le 12 Février, le mois de l’histoire des Noirs « Black History Month ». Il est important de mentionner que Stone Temple Church était la toute première église à accueillir courageusement Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. à Chicago malgré les défis de l’époque.

Durant l’événement, j’ai été profondément ému par l’histoire de M. Eugene Horton, libéré de la prison d’État de l’Illinois après avoir purgé 48 ans pour un crime qu’il n’a pas commis. Inspiré de sa propre expérience, il est devenu un ardent défenseur de la justice.

Toutes nos félicitations aux lauréats. Merci du fond du cœur à Mgr Derrick Fitpatrick et Reshorna Fitzpatrick pour avoir généreusement abrité l’événement. Et bravo au conseil d’administration de Abolition Institute.
